Hello Ladies.....I haven't been on here in sometime. But I need some advice. My son (4) had a screening with the school system for his speech. The panel advised my husband this morning that Owen has a rare disorder which is apraxia....I didn't believe that it was rare also the speech therapist stated that she didn't know how to treat it and would have to get someone else in to help. Anyone know of this or have experience with apraxia. I do know as his mother that he is a very bright child and after this inital meeting I feel as though they saw none of my child's strengths and only his weaknesses and is giving us a grim outlook on his progress. Just looking to find some success stories involving children with apraxia developing to normal speech. Thanks in Advance

Just wanted to share because it doesn't happen often. Last time I was here was in March 2004, so over 6 years ago.

We flew in last Saturday and have been busy driving around Oregon. Austin loves it, he was dying to discover the place where he was born, and seems to really like it here. He has already met his grandparents, his biological father and his wife, his half sister, and a cousin. He is just so excited to reconnect with the family he only knew in pictures. Not to mention that playing tourists in a beautiful place like Oregon is fun too.

So anyway, just wanted to let you know that I am on your side of the Ocean for once. But heading home in 4 days already. Which is a bummer really, but at the same time I miss my husband and other two children terribly, so it will be good to return to Luxembourg.

Ari has just had all his shots before starting kindergarten. Among them was a TB skin test, for which he tested positive. He then had a chest x-ray, which was all clear. However, as he had the + skin test, it means he's been exposed and has latent, or inactive TB, which could manifest into actual TB at some point in his life. I've looked up the stats, according to the CDC 10% of people with latent TB go on to have actual TB.

The recommended course of action now is to take a medicine, actually it's an antibiotic called isoniazid (INH). It has to be taken every day for 9 months. That's when I balked. I started reading about it and apparently it is quite harsh on the liver, he'll have to have regular blood tests while on it to check for liver damage.

Wondering if anyone else, or their child has had a + skin test, if so what you did!
