question about supply again...

Hey - Quick question... I just started ds (6 1/2 months old) on oatmeal cereal about 1 week ago. He LOVES it. But, since then, he is sleeping longer during the night now - so, maybe wakes up only 1 time during the night instead of every 3 hours he was doing before the cereal. So, of course, I have tried to set my alarm to wake up to pump every 3 hours but my body is not waking up and I'm sleeping until the baby wakes up. So, I've noticed a drop in my supply.

How do I keep my supply up when this is going on???? I was pumping around 5-6 oz. every 3 hours and now it's about 4 oz. now. I don't want it to drop any lower. He is taking about 4-5 oz. when he is drinking from a bottle - which is when I work (3 days a week). HELP!

TIA!

DeAnn

Right now, DS is 3 weeks old. He feeds about 2 1/2 - 3 hours at a time. Most of the time, he will get full off of feeding from one side if we go every 3 hours between feedings. If not, then we nurse from both sides. So, I've started pumping the other side while he is nursing. That one side will only get about 1 1/2 oz. When I pump both sides at the same time, I'll get maybe 2 1/2-3oz. I feel like this is a low amount. I had a low supply with my daughter also. I'm currently taking More Milk Plus from Wholefoods and Fenugreek. I was actually thinking about trying the prescription drug Reglan - does anyone have any experience with this? The side effects make me nervous though, and the baby can get them thru breastfeeding... Just wondering if anyone did this?

TIA!

I have Anna down to nursing just to go to sleep at night. She does ask for it more often than that, but instead I give her a sippy cup and a snack. Most of the time the sippy and snack is all she needs. At naptime I sometimes have to give her a bottle of bm (using up my freezer stash), and often she is happy with that.

I am ready to be done nursing now, so last night I "cut her off" and didn't nurse her. I gave her a bottle, and he put her hand down my shirt and just "held on" to my breast (that's her "thing" lately - to have her hand down my shirt fondling me). I hope if we stick with it, she'll be weaned completely in a few weeks.

I'm happy that we made it as long as we have, actually, I'm amazed that I made it past a month of nursing her, and here we are at 16 months!
I hope it doesn't take long for her to stop fussing about wanting to nurse though. I feel bad not letting her nurse, but honestly, I think it is time for her to be off the breast. If it were...

Hello all! I am not very active on the boards now but do come once in a while to read great tips on nursing.
My daughter turned 1 on February 2 (so she is 13 months now). I had originally planned to wean her at 12 months. Throughout her first year I never offered her milk in a bottle or cup (maybe my mistake) but I was producing enough milk so didn't want to buy any formula and I was tired of pumping (my now 3-year-old never latched and pumped exclusively for him for 12 months so I was so done with pumping).

Now the trouble is I have been trying to introduce her to the cup for a month but with no progress at all. She drinks milk from it like she drinks water - a sip here a sip there but not any substantial amount. I have tried all kinds of cups, nothing is working. I know weaning doesn't happen overnight but zero progress is something I was not prepared for. People tell me to force her to sit and drink it but how can you force a 13-month-old to do something...

I'm attempting to try breastfeeding my 7 wk old daughter again after a 4 wk period of her being on formula due to reflux and other feeding issues we are still unsure of. She won't latch on but I try as often as I can only for about 5 min that she will tolerate it. I'm also trying to pump to get the supply back just in case and I figure at the very least I can pump and give her my milk even if she won't nurse. I dried up from pumping more than nursing with my son so I'm not sure how long my body will last. That's why I needed advice on anything we can do to help her re-learn to nurse. I'm using a nipple sheild and I read that it is supposed to help transition but its so different than bottles and pacifiers.
