I am still trying to walk at least 2 mi a day 3-4 times a week. It is slow going because of the round ligament pain, but I add hills to keep up the work out!
Can't wait to run again! I feel like a slug on the tread mill and the track!

Welcome Jodi and great job!! Uphill is great - according to Runner's World magazine it lowers the chance of injury and helps add stamina and strength

Hello all!
Just got back in to town and was able to sneak in my long run for the week before the sun went down. My next big race that I'm running (next weekend) is a 10K so my long run's varying anywhere between 5-8 miles. Today was LSD (not the drug Tomorrow I'll head over to the college track to meet up with a buddy for some speed work. We used to do these hilly trail runs on Monday nights, but there's not enough light for it by the time I'm done working, so speed work at the track under the lights it is. If I may.....I'd like to share the following link with anyone who might be reading this thread and thinks we're nuts to be running......it's the Couch to 5K program and I can't tell you how many people I know who used to swear up and down that they hated running who have tried it, found it very do-able, and made it to the end successfully--it actually starts with mostly brisk walking during the first week with very short intervals of running, and builds from there. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml WTG on making that 10:30 pace, Rhonda! Jodi, I'm not a fan of the dreadmill or track, either (although I've had to do that,or nothing at all, quite a few times since it's been dark out!). Hope that ligament pain goes away for you. |

And, I HAVE to share this article......it made the rounds on running forums I visit. I found it very motivating and inspirational, as did most of the female
walkers and runners I know. The basic gist is that while men generally peak with running when they're younger (think 20's), you see an interesting
phenomenon with the 30, 40 and even 50-something female runners who have the "a-ha" moment and realize their best years are NOT behind them. You
could really take out the running part and get the same message about gals our age getting back into any sport (or starting a sport for the first time), and
not being afraid to give it a try and see where it goes. As someone who couldn't run for 30 seconds without getting winded a year ago, but kept at it and
improved--this article really made me excited to try to push myself a bit, and not get into the "I can't/I'd be no good" mentality.
Anyway....here it is: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/30/health/nutrition/30Fitness.html?fta=y |

I am back from our walk. It was probably 2.5 miles, about 45 mins... my ipod conked out mid walk so I can only guess (Apparently you have to charge them
Karah, since I assumed you've always been thin, I thought you were just a health nut and could run etc, so it's good to hear that you couldn't run 30 seconds a year ago. Cuz um, that's where I'm at right now My fast walk is about 16.5 min/mile, so I need to work on it!

Oh, no, Toni.....at my most, I had roughly an extra 85 lbs from where I currently am (several years back, after A was born, but have definitely been at that
point where I wasn't even to square one!) And from a year ago to now, it was roughly +45 lbs, and my eating used to fluctuate between okay and *meh*
That's cool, Beth.....I think any of those programs are great! |

Can I join in? I walk about 2 miles every day and run 3-4 times a week. I also teach Stroller Fit. I really like it and the best part is I can bring Jonah
with me to exercise. I think it is so important to be a good role model for keeping your body healthy. I know right now he has no clue, but if he knows this
is part of our daily routine then when he is old enough he will just automatically want to exercise. That is my hope anyway!

Karah, back in 2000, my mom and I were walking 3 miles a day. But we were pretty much strolling

trae143, that's so cool that you teach that class. I'm not aware of it being offered in my neck of the woods, but I've heard a lot about it and it
sounds neat.
Toni, she might be complaining now but I bet she'll thank you in a month or two when it feels easier to go that pace. So I was just outside and it smells like snow out there |

Okay I have/need to join in....it's looooooong story for me, but I was the typical "I'm fat" girl in highschool...I was 5'8"
135.....I WISH I had that problem now....after 5 kids I NEED to do this for myself. I LOVE running and working out in general. A few years ago I did the couch
to 5k program and was half way through when I got pregnant again and didn't stick to it....so now that I know that won't happen again (no more for
us!!)...I'm starting yet again....I turn 31 on December 27th and I would love to have at least got started by then. I have a treadmil and also got a great
deal on a brand new jogging stroller (5 bucks at the Youth Ranch) so I have no excuses~....My main goal is not to be skinny anymore, but healthy....just
working out and trying to eat right...I can't stick to the no carb thing for my whole life...so I'm not even going to try to use it to lose weight
anymore...(I've lost 45lbs the first time...pregnant gained it back...then 30 pounds the second time...then pregnant again and gained it back)...so working
out like a mad woman is my plan
