what age? and what are the rules?

Im going with 15 closer to 16 depending on the maturity level of my girls and how they're doing in school.. It will start as group things.. though.. No one on one stuff.. I just would want her to take her time.

Ugh...it's such a pain. I would say Nicole has had a boyfriend since the last year of middle school (about 12.) Just the past year the boyfriend business has gotten pretty serious (scary for me!) I think you have to have good communication w/the other parents. We always make sure that they are well supervised.

Okay...I'm sure I am way old fashioned but I believe that "dating" is for the purpose of marriage if at any point in that relationship someone knows that they are not going to marry that person, then they have no business staying in that relationship...so, with that....I don't think MY 15 or 16 is ready to or will know who they are going marry .

no need to re-word it... this question wasnt put here for a debate.. it was just allowing parents to share their rules on dating.. not to knock someone for what they do with their child/children

I have found that it is hard to tell them no at 16. I don't think dating is strictly for marriage though

I think it is important for them to date around in order for them to find the "one". I did not let Kylie date until 16. It is very difficult to let her now.... I really have to fight to let go of keeping her my little girl. But things get very difficult in the teen years and one way or another they will find a way to do things

I also DO NOT believe that dating is strictly for the purpose of marriage. I think it depends on the maturity of the child. I am not looking forward to that part of parenting either

I would say between 15-17.

Momma -
I consider "serious" someone that she thinks that she is in love with...lol...you know that you cannot tell them otherwise at that age. Also, someone that I will allow her to spend time with (going to movies, hanging out at home.)
I feel like if it's going to happen, I should at least supervise as much as possible. I have found (through the program I discussed previously) that there have been times when they were not supervised to my satisfaction & it's scary b/c they think that they are ready to be more...eh hem...physical. Then I know that I need to watch even more. I know it ticks her off but too bad.

It is really hard when you are working parent. I just remember how much crap I pulled as a teen when my parents were not home. I am lucky that my MIL lives w/us but I still think that a fair amount of junk could go on w/o her knowing about it if she is in the basement (her apartment.)

My opinion is that it would vary for every child based upon their own maturity level and how much you (general you) as a parent feel you can trust them. When my boys are older almost everything they are allowed to do or not do as the case may be will be based upon their individual maturity level.

We've always said 15-16 and that is if she's doing relatively well in school, respectful at home and basically taking care of business (grades). However, she's had boyfriends all through Jr. High and one that we know of in high school. I know they will do what they want to do at school, obviously, but she's never been on a date.

I think when Jason and I are ready to venture into that territory it's going to start off with him coming to our home for dinners/movies stuff like that, for awhile before it even turns into a group thing.

This is one part of parenting a teen that I despise wholeheartedly and it totally came faster than I was expecting.

lol ipodjunkie...OMG you are so right, it did come too fast...

my dd has snuck and had a boyfriend at school but no dates and when i found out, i told her its a no no.. who knows if she broke it off. One can only hope. LOL

Hmm, I'm thinking 14 and 15 would be group or supervised dating and at 16 (if she is responsible and mature) she can go on real dates (dinner, movies, etc.).

ITA Kat. That's how I feel about it too. Some kids are just ready sooner than others for different things. I also do not believe that dating is specifically for the purpose of marriage. I can't imagine having married the first guy I dated!

Why can't we just lock them up in the house and never let them out? Feed them, clothe them, and look at them that's all, then send them to bed.

I dont know........Im, thinking 15 or 16 too but it will depend on the guy and my trust level with my daughter at that time. It will also depend on her grades, etc. I can say that I will consider letting her date around 16 as long as the other issues are in check at that time too.........

I cant even stand to think about it. Men suck.
