Nick is scheduled for eartube surgery (update w link about ear plugs after tubes) |

Well, Saturday we took Nick to the doctors and this was 3rd visit in two months. All three times double ear infection. I guess I knew eventually he would need
them but I'm still a little scared. His surgery is scheduled for Dec. 8, one day before his 4th birthday. His party is the Sunday after and the doctor said
he can go to pre-school the day after getting them. Hope it is as quick and painless as they make it sound. Thanks for any prayers you can spare.

you will notice such a difference straight away...Dominic had his done in April 2007 and weve never looked back...i am sure your little man will do great...Dom
was 3 1/2 when he had his done and the actual operation doesnt take long at all...its really good that theyve sorted it all out so quickly for you both because
EIs can be the worst and soooo painful...Dom suffered for almost 2years with his getting 2-3infections per month before something was finally done...

That sounds just like Lily! She even got them in the Spring/Summer. It never failed. W/in a month of getting off antibiotics, she'd come down with another
infection.
Keep us posted but, he will do just fine!

OH! Also something no one told me. He will have to wear ear plugs of some type during baths or swimming. Target sells some specifically for kids. They are
bright orange, you can't miss them.

Both my boys have tubes & all went well overall. We got the boys fitted at the ENT for ear plugs. I think they billed us $8/pair, and we've had the
same pair for a year....we just wash them each time.

Thanks for all the replys girls, I sure hope this makes his ears all better. Now the doctor told us yesterday that he did NOT need to wear earplugs while in
the shower, swimming etc... He said that it is not necessary even though people think it is. I found it strange but I will probably make him wear them just to
be safe. Anyone else's doctor tell them not to worry about earplugs? Thanks again for your support

its weird how conflicting the info is...i was told that because now theres actually a hope in the ear where the grommet is inserted water can actually collect
in that small hole and cause pain if water did indeed get down there...(pain is sure not fun lol) so instead i used to use a small bit of cotton wool with some
petroleum jelly on...the jelly acts like a barrier and it stops the water getting to the cotton wool...
goodluck i am sure it will all go fine... Love and Hugs x x x x |

How strange. I've never heard that some docs think it is unnecessary to do the earplugs?! They also never offered to "fit" us w/ a pair of
re-usable ones! What the heck?
I am sure this will improve his health! I missed SO much work and Lily missed a lot of daycare because of all of the ear infections. Since she always got a fever w/ them, I would usually have to leave work to get her from daycare and then, since they have a 'fever free for 24 hours before returning to daycare' rule, I'd have to miss the next day too! Yeah, my vacation time was consumed by these EIs! Let us know how it goes.

My middle son just got tubes put in back in September and we were told that we only needed plugs if he was in non-chlorinated water like the lake/ocean. Baths
and swimming pools he doesn't need them. They fitted him for a pair of reusable ones at the doctor but he hasn't used them yet since we haven't
been in the lake since his surgery...
