I am feeling kinda bittersweet about it....I always wanted him to self wean and I would have liked it to be later on (his brother self weaned at about 15 months).

Is it time to stop? |

I am thinking its time to think about stopping bfing Noah. He is 1 next week and will now take his medicated formula as and when we offer it (he is dairy and soy allergic). I have to have a nuclear x ray next week so have to go a full 24 hours without feeding him and I think its the beginning of the end.

it's time to stop when you're ready to stop - if you're conflicted, just play it by ear. You've done great through rough times!

to Rhonda. If you're not ready to stop, you can always feed him EBM or the formula for that day and then go back to your normal routine. Like Rhonda said, just play it by ear. Don't feel like one day without breastfeeding is a death sentence for the whole deal. He may surprise you and be all about it the next day. I know that neither of my kids were anywhere close to being done at a year, but then again, they both went close to or past the two year mark (21 and 28 months). I found that once we hit a year, the don't offer/don't refuse philosophy was the best gauge. As long as they kept asking, I kept giving--if that's what you want to do.

Well had the x ray yesterday and they only needed me to stop breastfeeding for the day so I did a pump and dump last night (didnt get much but I havent pumped in a LONG time) and then fed him as usual this morning. He is actually due to start trying a new medical formula next week so I am going to continue with the breastfeeding until I know how he goes with that! Can you believe my little bubbakins is gonna be 1 in 2 days time! where did those precious hours, days and weeks go?
